Alaskan Malamute Rescue of Ohio, Inc. was started by Linda and Terry Smith of Mt.
Gilead, Ohio in 1989. The organization became official in 1990.
At the time Alaskan Malamute Rescue of Ohio was started, Linda had just purchased
her first Malamute and was doing quite a bit of showing with her other dogs.
A statement made by another person in the show ring made an impression on
Linda. That statement being, “When
you own a specific breed of dog, you have an obligation to that breed to give
something back to it or to help the organization.”
Linda then tried to contact a malamute rescue organization in her area
and found that none existed. Linda then
took it upon herself to start Alaskan Malamute Rescue of Ohio.
Through her efforts and the help of other volunteers over the years, Alaskan
Malamute Rescue of Ohio has been able to place hundreds of dogs that may not
have had a second or even a third chance of being adopted by a loving family.
We average placing 15 to 20 dogs per year coming into rescue from all walks of life.
Please check out our "Success Stories Link”
to see some of these adopted dogs.
Through our rescue service we provide our dogs with temperament evaluation, all shots
including rabies, heartworm test and preventative, micro chipping, spay/neuter,
flea prevention,
and other medical treatment as needed including heartworm treatment.
